SWI (Susceptibility Weighted Imaging) was developed to better diagnose brain injuries. These additional pulse sequences and the post-processing of the images have the ability to show what conventional MRI pulse sequences do not show. SWI has been shown to be useful for detecting a number of conditions including (but not limited to):

Post-Concussion Syndrome

DAI (Diffuse Axonel Injury)

Definitive Brain Hemorrhage

MTBI (Mild Traumatic Brain Injury)

Micro-Hemorrhages from a Traumatic Brain Injury
